DAYSTAR
LEADERSHIP & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE
Prof.
Abraham Waithima
At
the Daystar Leadership and Professional Development Institute (DLPDI), we have
had the privilege of conducting over 20 short courses in the 2022-23 academic
year. In total, we have trained over 800 participants. This is a unique
achievement for us as we raised funds for all the training from individuals and
corporate organizations.
We
had the honor of launching several new programmes including Channah Leadership
Development Programme.
This
is a unique programme designed for pastors’ wives. The progamme was launched in
December 2022 in Kajiado where it attracted 35 pastors’ wives drawn from
different denominations. When we rolled it out on campus, it attracted about 300
pastors’ wives and female pastors. The programme has been so popular that we
have received requests to roll it out in other part of the country. We are scheduled
to offer it in Mai Mahiu this December.
In
partnership with the Institute of Certified Secretaries, we designed and rolled
out some training on Church Leadership and Governance. The training came as a
response to the threat by government to regulate churches following the
unfortunate incident at Shakahola. Many Church leaders have advocated for
self-regulation. The training looked at the various church governance models
and the role of the church boards in strategic thinking, financial management
and succession, among others.
The
other new training that the Institute rolled out is on Health, Safety, and
Environment Management. This particular training equipped participants with
general health and safety management knowledge and skills. A total of 30
participants attended.
In
shaping the future Church, the institute rolled out a Children’s Ministry
Workers Programme. The programme attracted over 80 participants. The objective
of the training was to equip the participants with curriculum designing skills.
The institute involved seasoned facilitators who have been in the children’s
ministry for a long time.
Further,
the Institute has rolled out several certification programme was launched in
December 2022 in Kajiado where it attracted 35 pastors’ wives drawn from
different programmes such as: Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Chartered
Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), Certified Associate in Project
Management (CAPM) etc.
The
2023/24 academic year activities have started with a very successful Leadership
Cockpit. Our theme in the 2023 Leadership Cockpit was Leadership and Faith: The
Nexus. The main keynote speaker was the President of Taylor University, Dr
Michael Lindsay. Other keynote speakers were the chairman of Safaricom
Foundation, Joe Ogutu, ISK CEO Rose Mwaura and the General Secretary of
National Council of Churches of Kenya, Rev Canon Chris Kinyanjui.
We
are looking forward to 2023/24 year with great expectations.
